Honor our long-term care facilities staff for their heroism and bravery

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, long-term care facilities were one of the hardest hit sectors across all of healthcare. Long-term care facilities staff went above and beyond, caring for residents in the face of great personal risk.

The McKnight Prize for Healthcare Heroes is intended for an individual, but the COVID-19 response has shown us that we are all in this together. The heroism of all the long-term care facilities staff that showed up and kept showing up day after day truly deserves the deepest of thanks and gratitude.

We cannot think of a more deserving group of heroes to receive this award. Join with us to honor all of the many dedicated staff working in long-term care—our nurse assistants, environmental service workers, dietitians, nurses, administrators, activity directors, therapists and many other support staff.

Thank you for making an impact.

A huge thank you to all our front-line health care workers who have so tirelessly taken care of our families throughout this pandemic. You are dedicated, hard-working, compassionate and loving even during the most trying of times. My own family has nurses and nurse practitioners who work in a variety of settings from hospitals and private clinics to long term critical care units. Their patients range from pregnant women and newborns to the elderly. I have witnessed the extreme challenges that Covid has brought to them and to all our health care workers. We are blessed to have such caring “angels” in our midst. Love & prayers to each & every one of them!

My mom (she recently passed) was at Sumner Place in Lincoln NE, my sister is still living at Sumner Place. The staff has done an amazing job during the pandemic. We always felt they were being well taken care of even when short staffed. They took all measures to keep our loved ones safe yet made it possible to still visit with window visits and facetime when we couldn't visit inside. I can't imagine working the long hours they do especially when having to be masked and gowned up all day long. A huge Thank you to Sumner Place for the care they give their residents! ❤️

I am extremely grateful for our nation's long-term care health professionals. Though I do not personally have a loved one living in a long-term care facility, I have many friends who do. The pandemic has created extremely difficult challenges for them, and it's been the care, compassion and competence of the facility's professionals which have eased the anxieties of my friends and frankly, kept their loved ones alive. Thank you for all that you do! Thank you for all of the lives you have saved, for all of the people you've helped age with dignity and for all of courage you've shown and shared throughout this pandemic.
