Contagious Conversations Season 5: Exploring the COVID-19 Pandemic, Its Health Challenges and The Response

Have you ever wondered about the work of public health leaders during a pandemic? Or how various agencies and organizations work together to solve persistent health challenges? These are some of the topics covered in Season 5 of the CDC Foundation’s Contagious Conversations podcast, which launched today, examining the public health challenges of COVID-19.

The latest season of Contagious Conversations features a series of three engaging conversations with leading experts on key areas of the response for the coronavirus.

This season’s guests include:

  • Daniel Dawes, director of the Satcher Health Leadership Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine, discusses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on communities of color, especially Black communities. He also explains the challenges of today’s public health leaders from a historical perspective.

  • Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, vice dean for public health practice and community engagement at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, shares the key role of contact tracing in reopening and recovery efforts related to COVID-19, and the importance of hiring public health workers from within the communities most challenged by the coronavirus.

  • Chief Lynn Malerba, who is the first female chief in the modern history of the Mohegan Tribe, discusses the disproportionate impact of the coronavirus on tribal nations and the unique challenges COVID-19 presents to some of the rich, cultural traditions of tribal nations. The Mohegan Tribe is a sovereign, federally-recognized Indian tribe with a reservation in Southeastern Connecticut.

To gain a better understanding of our world during this unprecedented time, Contagious Conversations, for the first time since its launch, explores one central topic, the COVID-19 pandemic, through a variety of perspectives. Public health leaders from around the country share their insight on key efforts to aid in the national and global response to the coronavirus.
