New Initiative Created to Enhance Safety in Shared Spaces

As the coronavirus pandemic has swept across the country this past year, it has changed much of our normal lives, including the way we view public spaces and the safety measures we must take to prevent the spread of disease. We have learned the importance of masking, social distancing and keeping clean surfaces. Today, safe and effective vaccines, which are offering hope, are being distributed across the United States, but more progress is needed before things return to something more like normal.

To assist us all in venturing outside our homes as conditions improve, Clorox, the Cleveland Clinic and CDC Foundation have partnered on a new initiative, the Clorox Safer Today Alliance. This initiative aims to fuel innovation to help enhance public health and safety outside the home, now and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative will support key sectors–including retail, travel, hospitality, entertainment and transportation–by providing practices on increased safety measures that aim to instill confidence when people return to shared spaces.

“With the vaccination rollout underway, we need to stay vigilant and protect ourselves,” said Judy Monroe, MD, president and CEO of the CDC Foundation. “This initiative will help put into practice public health measures to keep us safe and healthy outside of our homes and in our communities.”

Business members, which currently include United Airlines, Uber Technologies, Enterprise Holdings, and AMC Theaters, will put into practice new public health behaviors that are especially important as these behaviors play a crucial role in the reopening of businesses. As we all know, our return to normal means that we not only need to take care of ourselves today, but also be prepared for tomorrow.
