Siemens President Joins CDC Foundation Board of Directors
November 17, 2002, ATLANTA - Klaus Kleinfeld, president and CEO of Siemens Corporation, has been elected to the board of directors of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Foundation.
Mr. Kleinfeld became president and chief executive officer of Siemens Corporation, the U.S. arm of Siemens AG, in January 2002, after serving one year as the U.S. chief operating officer. He was named to Siemens AG’s managing board in November 2002. Siemens USA, a $21 billion company with corporate headquarters in New York, is a leader in health care technology and information management, power generation and transmission, automation and controls, lighting, information and communications technology, transportation, and building technologies. Mr. Kleinfeld was executive vice president and a member of the executive board of the Siemens AG Medical Engineering Group prior to his U.S. appointment. Before that, he led Siemens’ $1 billion worldwide Angiography, Fluoroscopy and X-Ray Systems business. In both posts, he played a key role in advancing innovations in medical diagnostics and other health care technologies. Mr. Kleinfeld began his career with Siemens in 1987.
Mr. Kleinfeld serves on the boards of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Metropolitan Opera. He is also a member of the Business Roundtable and the NY City Partnership. He has been involved in a wide variety of charitable activities, from fundraising to the formation of a foundation to benefit underprivileged children.
“Mr. Kleinfeld brings extensive international experience and a global perspective to the board, which will be very helpful in many of our current international programs, like those in Brazil, India and Kenya,” says Charles Stokes, CDC Foundation president and CEO.
Founded by Congress seven years ago, the CDC Foundation is an independent, non-profit enterprise that forges effective partnerships between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and others to improve health and safety.
