Partners: Foundations

"By demystifying CDC, the CDC Foundation opens it up in a way that makes it easier for people and organizations to understand - and care about - how they benefit from CDC's important work. And the reverse is also true; it's really a two-way street for learning."

- Martha Katz, Director of Health Policy
Healthcare Georgia Foundation

Since its creation, the CDC Foundation has worked closely with foundations to build programs that address specific health threats. Among these foundation-supported initiatives are a program to empower business, government and nonprofit leaders to act together during times of crisis, programs to train disease detectives in developing nations like Kenya and Brazil and a program to use technology to help prevent child abuse. Often funding partners become engaged early on in a project to clearly understand its objectives or participate in the program design. Several partners may jointly fund a program to provide adequate resources to ensure its successful completion. Foundations may also help advance the mission of the CDC Foundation and improve public health by providing unrestricted support through the Annual Alliance.
