While it might be difficult to imagine that a single person could play a role in the battle against global threats like terrorism, violence, heart disease, cancer diabetes and emerging infectious diseases, there is indeed a way. By supporting the CDC Foundation, you can make a powerful difference in fighting the world's most serious threats to our health and safety.

When you give to the CDC Foundation, you help set vital public health programs into motion — programs that CDC can't fund now and may never be able to fund without your support. With your help, we can dramatically impact the future of global public health — today.

Memorial/Honor Gifts: If you wish to remember a friend or loved one who has passed away, consider a memorial gift to the CDC Foundation. Or if you wish to honor a colleague, friend or family member, you can make a tribute gift to the Foundation in that person’s name.

Matching Gifts: You can double, or in some cases triple, your gift to the CDC Foundation by matching it through your employer or your spouse’s employer. Check with your personnel department to see if your company has a matching gift program.

Endowed and Restricted Funds: Restricted funds are established to provide a permanent source of support for a specific program or activity at CDC. The CDC Foundation currently manages 13 restricted funds that you may choose to support. These funds include the Emergency Preparedness & Response Fund which was activated for the first time after Hurricane Katrina to support public health response efforts on the Gulf Coast, the Global Disaster Response Fund which was created after the tsunami hit southern Asia in 2004, and the Gangarosa Endowment for Safe Water which helps prevent disease and death in developing countries by introducing methods to ensure safe drinking water. To learn more, read fund descriptions online, call the Advancement Office at 404-653-0790 or e-mail aahmed@cdcfoundation.org.

Planned Gifts: Planned gifts include a variety of gifts with special tax advantages, including gifts through your estate (bequests).

Gifts of Securities: Gifts of appreciated assets may be made outright or paid in installments. Outright gifts of appreciated securities entitle you to an income-tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities. If you have held the appreciated assets for more than one year, you do not have to pay capital gains tax, which you would have to pay if you sold the asset.

Businesses and Corporations

Restricted Support: Some corporations wish to invest in a specific programmatic area within CDC. These gifts typically help defray all or some of the costs of carrying out a scientific study, health education campaign, training program or other public health program. Often funding partners become engaged early on in a project to clearly understand its objectives or participate in the program design. Several partners may jointly fund a program to provide adequate resources to ensure its successful completion. Read more about CDC Foundation partnerships that help corporations and CDC achieve common goals. To find out about contributing to a particular program, call the Advancement Office at 404-653-0790 or e-mail jrodgers1@cdc.gov.

Corporate Annual Fund: The CDC Foundation's Corporate Annual Fund campaign provides companies of all sizes the opportunity to align themselves with the public health objectives of CDC, while providing unrestricted support to the CDC Foundation. Learn More

CDC Employees

Combined Federal Campaign: Contributions from CDC employees and other federal employees through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) provide important unrestricted operating funds that help the CDC Foundation support critical CDC programs.  The CDC Foundation is included in the CFC national listing as the National Foundation for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, number 10141. CDC publicizes a CFC enrollment period each year, usually beginning in September and ending in November.

Please note that due to recent changes in CFC reporting procedures, the CDC Foundation no longer automatically receives the names of individual CDC employees who contribute through the CFC. If you would like us to acknowledge your gift in our annual donor reports, please be sure to check the box on your CFC application that gives the CFC permission to release your name and address to the CDC Foundation. If you also wish to share the amount of your CFC contribution with the CDC Foundation, please forward a copy of your completed application that indicates your overall contribution amount to: CDC Foundation, Attn: Advancement, 50 Hurt Plaza, Suite 765, Atlanta, GA 30303. Or, send an e-mail with your full name and contribution amount to lcwoods@cdc.gov.

Where Your Help is Needed Most: You can make a gift at any time of the year, in any amount. Your generous contributions help us continue to identify and pursue new and innovative ways of working with the private sector to provide CDC with greater flexibility and expanded opportunities. Unrestricted gifts from donors like you help us reach out to make these important connections and make certain that we have the capacity to ensure success. You can make a gift online or by mail. You can also make gifts over the phone by calling 404.653.0790.

Memorial/Honor Gifts: If you want to honor a colleague, friend or family member, you can make a gift to the Foundation in his or her honor. Honor gifts are a great way to recognize special occasions, such as retirements, professional milestones or birthdays. We have even had couples with CDC connections request that, in lieu of wedding presents, guests make contributions to the CDC Foundation in their honor. Or, you may wish to remember a friend or loved one who has passed away by making a memorial gift. At your instruction, we will send a card notifying the family of your gift. You can make a honor or memorial gift online or by mail. You can also make gifts over the phone by calling 404.653.0790.

Endowments and Restricted Funds: Some of the first donations the CDC Foundation received were from CDC employees who directed their gifts to an endowment. Endowment gifts are kept permanently and invested to produce annual revenue for a specific program or activity at CDC. Today the CDC Foundation manages 13 endowed funds with a total value of more than $2.2 million, including the Gangarosa Endowment for Safe Water, the Endowment for Global Health Priorities and the Louise Martin, D.V.M., M.S., EIS ’85 Memorial Scholarship Endowment.

In addition to endowed funds, several restricted funds help CDC address specific public health challenges and respond to public health emergencies in the U.S. and around the world. These funds include the Emergency Preparedness & Response Fund which was activated for the first time after Hurricane Katrina to support public health response efforts on the Gulf Coast, the Global Disaster Response Fund which was created after the tsunami hit southern Asia in 2004 and the Polio Eradication Heroes Fund which provides compensation or recognition to volunteers injured or killed in the global fight against polio.

Schools and Youth Groups

Many schools and youth groups wish to foster civic responsibility and encourage charity by organizing opportunities for their students or youth members to make a difference in the lives of other children. The CDC Foundation has several programs that directly impact the lives of children and families. The Foundation's Bed Nets for Children program helps purchase insecticide-treated bed nets for children in Africa where a child dies from malaria every 30 seconds. This program is especially suited to youth groups because a contribution of just $5 is enough to purchase a bed net that can protect up to three children. One of the Foundation's partners, Children for Children, has developed curriculum and tool kits for schools and youth groups to help raise money to purchase bed nets. To learn more about additional opportunities for schools and youth groups to support CDC programs, please call 404.653.0790 or e-mail aahmed@cdcfoundation.org.
