Supporters of CDC Foundation Endowment to Meet Their Match
Marcus Family Foundation creates $1 million matching fund
Contributors to the CDC Foundation Endowment will see the value of their gifts triple, thanks to a $1 million contribution from the Marcus Family Foundation, a private foundation established by the family of Bernard Marcus, co-founder and chairman of The Home Depot.
The “Marcus Million Match” will provide a two-to-one match for gifts made to the CDC Foundation Endowment by June 30, 1999. The endowment provides a base of funding for an array of projects designed to address threats to health by forging partnerships with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Marcus, who also chairs the CDC Foundation’s Board of Directors, established the matching gift program through the Marcus Family Foundation because of his personal concern for the state of public health today and in the future.
“The world is getting smaller by the day,” Marcus says. “A health threat or disease that affects one population poses a threat to all populations. I want to make sure the CDC Foundation has permanent resources to continue its entrepreneurial work in creating alliances between CDC and people who care about health.”
The Marcus Million Match also provides a one-to-one match for gifts made to the CDC Foundation’s existing endowment funds, funds restricted to a certain purpose. These endowment funds support a variety of fellowships, research efforts and program support for CDC scientists and individuals working in public health.
Individuals and organizations can also explore creating new endowment funds by contacting the CDC Foundation at (404) 653-0790 or 1-888-880-4CDC.
