About the EIS Alumni Association
The Epidemic Intelligence Service Alumni Association (EISAA) represents
more than 2,700 EIS graduates worldwide and provides the means for
alumni to connect with the EIS program and other former EIS
officers. Only former EIS graduates are eligible to join.
Members are asked to contribute $25 for annual
dues to cover the costs of communications and various awards. A lifetime dues option is also available for $350.
Activities
The EIS Alumni Association fosters a spirit of
loyalty to the EIS program through its activities. According to the by-laws, the established purposes of the EISAA are:
- To support and promote the welfare of the EIS program
- To maintain a strong relationship between the alumni and the EIS program
- To assist in the recruitment of qualified candidates for the EIS program
- To foster and sustain a sense of collegiality among its member
- To select the winner of the Alexander D. Langmuir Prize
Each year,
the Association’s Executive Committee reviews submissions
and selects a winner for the prestigious Alexander D. Langmuir
Prize. This award is presented annually to an EIS officer
who submits the most outstanding manuscript covering an epidemiologic
investigation or study. Additionally,
members are encouraged to nominate individuals for the Distinguished Friend
of EIS Award, which is given to an individual who has made significant
contributions to the EIS program and its participants.
Other activities include conducting
the annual EIS Alumni Association meeting which is held in conjunction
with the EIS Annual Conference, selection of conference scholarship recipients and general support
of the EIS Program Office
History
The EIS Alumni Association was established in the mid 1960s by a group of alumni that includes
John C. Greene, D.M.D., M.P.H., EIS ’56; Donald A. Henderson,
M.D., M.P.H., EIS ’55; Neal Nathanson, M.D., EIS ’55;
Robert W. Sappenfield, M.D., EIS ’51; and Paul F. Wehrle,
M.D., EIS ’51.
